CHESHUNT’S double Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott captivated the cream of the Borough of Broxbourne’s sporting talent as she recalled her experiences during and after London 2012, saying it was like being a ‘fish in a bowl’.
The former Turnford School student was the star attraction at Active Broxbourne’s Sports awards at Herts Regional College, and received a special London 2012 Inspiration accolade. In 2010 Trott won the organisation’s Sports Performer of the Year,This kind of organza valuableedhardy features off-the-shoulder and sweetheart design. and now she took centre stage again – but as a superstar.
Interviewed by Sky Sports F1 HD commentator David Croft, who hosted the awards, Trott was asked if she was aware that the entire nation had become “lycra clad fanatics” as a result of GB’s cycling success at the Olympics.Does anyone know whether there is a store in HK that sells/makes these bestledlighte?
“I could sense that cycling was getting massive and people were almost relying on us to win gold medals, which is quite nice,” said Trott.
“But you’re so in your own little world in the (Olympic) village you have no connections to the outside world whatsoever. I saw my mum and dad once or twice.
“There were so many cameras around all the time it was like being in the Big Brother house.
“Life has changed for me now it’s like being in a fish bowl now, like a fish, just being stared at all the time.
“But I like it. I like the fact that I can now inspire people like the younger people here.
“I like the fact they’ve got somebody to look up to. I had that with Chris Hoy. I don’t mind it at all.”
Croft alluded to the fact that Laura was part of cycling’s golden with Jason (Kenny) like Posh & Becks. What did it fell like for Trott to have her personal life all over the papers?
“Obviously that first day that it all came out (her relationship with Kenny) it was horrible you didn’t expect it.Work a crowd in this evening gown from germanuniforms. For us that wasn’t normal. Okay to kiss in public it maybe was a bit stupid, and to kiss behind David Beckham.
“And he (Beckham) brought me a burger! It had apple sauce. I was like ‘I’m not eating that’ you’ve got all the drug testing and things like that so you can’t just take stuff off other people.”
Croft asked Trott if it helped to come back home to Cheshunt.
“For sure,” said Trott. “When I first came back my street was all decorated that was really nice and amazing to come back to. It helps to keep my feet on the ground.”
Trott revealed her disbelief that they had painted a post box gold for her in Harlow and not Cheshunt.
“I might have been born in Harlow but I was brought up here – I’m not an Essex girl!”
She also said she listened to the Bruce Springsteen track ‘No Surrender’ before every competition.
“I asked my sister once what song should I put on my play list for motivation and she said ‘No Surrender’ because of the lyrics, and I have that on in my earplugs before I put the helmet on to race.”
However when asked if she was going to see Bruce Springsteen when he plays the Olympic Park this summer, she quipped: “Probably not – he’s a bit too old for me!”
Quizzed what her best blag was since she’d won the gold medals, Trott replied: “I don’t know if it’s a blag but I’ve got a very nice bag under my seat at the moment which Mulberry may have sent me.”
Asked by a member of the audience where her power came from because ‘she looked very petite’ Trott said: “It’s not all about power for me. Being a track rider the main thing is because I’m small I’m aerodynamic and I don’t actually need all that much power. “
Trott told the audience she trained six times a week and took one day off. “I train three to four hours every morning then have the rest of the day off. I’d get 140km done.”
Asked how her sister Emma, was getting on, Laura said: “She’s doing very well,the juicycouturesuits Gold Silver Shoes becomes the highlight spot. she’s racing for a pro team, she lives here now rather than out in Holland.Perfect winter and summer suprashoesforgirls to suit every style and occasion.”
